I had a conversation like that with someone recently. Many of his criticisms of modern ā€œcapitalismā€ were spot-on. But he couldn’t quite ā€œget thereā€ wrt Bitcoin

It usually stems from them seeing it as a get rich quick scheme or something. Without understanding any of the fundamentals that make it special, how it works, all that. They just think it's some imaginary coin that people just bet on if it goes up or down.

To be fair, it's what much of the fiat circus has given us. There's often a strange almost resentment, like they can't be bothered to entertain the idea. Bitcoin is a huge pill to swallow if you aren't ready.

I do however love being told it's worthless by someone who doesn't even know what proof of work is.

They are salty that someone made money off a rapidly appreciating commodity and they didn't.

Marxists are fucking moochers and freeloaders, they abhor work and reward.

In this case, it’s someone who works very hard but has been frequently f’d by the fiat system, in various ways.

It’s easy to understand how someone can blame the abstract concept of ā€œcapitalismā€ if they don’t understand the specific issues of fiat money. Agree with Poe that lack of knowledge (coupled with genuine struggling) is usually the source of this resentment.

Many of the societal issues that might make someone lean socialist are the same issues that bitcoiners are fighting against. It’s the source of these issues (fiat, not capitalism) that gets overlooked in the socialist case, and as a result, wrong conclusions about a solution are proposed.

Much more well put. šŸ’œšŸ«‚

It is wild how much derision you can get from some people when you propose Bitcoin as a solution to the problems it was literally built to solve

Honestly. We've been so conditioned it's hard to think that hard for a lot of people. And the person I was thinking of is in a similar situation. Work hard, be aware there is a problem. There's almost a hopelessness, resignation or something.

Finger pointing, pick between two colors, make sure you vote for continued systemic failure. Our options have gotten more limited for so long it is almost too much to ask for someone to listen when you say, there's some crazy digital unit of account on an immutable ledger bound to electricity consumption that might just be something fair to grab hold of.

Totally. Great points across the board.

I certainly felt a sense of resignation to things ā€œbeing the way they areā€ with respect to certain failures of our society and economy.

Not so any more šŸ¤™
