Blindly asking for forward secrecy is my hint that the person is not a cryptographer and is just regurgitating words from the privacy media.
Discussion
there's still lots of ways that buggy clients will simply blast to public relays. so it's definitely not perfect. But theoretically it could be better in many ways if done right
Yep, my current issue is with DM relays that auth. If it is a personal DM relay that the user wants to filter who can send them DMs (only follows for instance), I think auth is cool. But if it is a public/common relay, then it's not cool.
I don't know exactly how to determine when to auth or not.
Except forward secrecy is pretty useful for secure communication. Even if you send the message directly to the recipient's device.
how so
If at some point a message gets intercepted (e.g. via some form of MitM attack), decrypting one message would not mean the whole conversation is compromised.
so your concern is that a TLS connection would get MitM attacked?
Depends on the TLS connection ;-)
Also "e.g." stand for "exempli gratia", which means it's just one example. there are several ways a message could be intercepted. Using forward secrecy means each message would have to be decrypted independently. Cracking one message would not give you access to the whole conversation.
okay we'll I've had feds break into my house, armed, and murder my pets to steal my devices while they are running so they could capture my private keys. Iβve had them raid colocation centers that Iβve hosted in dozens of times to do the same. And I have no assurance that it will not happen again, as I have an inbox full of various notifications of subpeonas being served against me. So the need for my communications to remain secret if my key is compromised is not some abstract thing I am regurgitating from an EFF pamphlet. It is a basic requirement of having a private conversation. And for anyone at risk of unlawful, arbitrary, and capricious arrest and device seizure at the hands of authorities (virtually all Americans β maybe where you live is better), it is a very real need.
π΄ What Is Islam?
π΄ Islam is not just another religion.
π΅ It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham.
π΄ Islam literally means βsubmission to Godβ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God.
π΅ It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone.
π΄ It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine.
π The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as:
π { βSay, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.β} (Quran 112:1-4) π
π΄ Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus.
π΅ Rather itβs going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him.
