Most of the dying people I've encountered didn't die when they were ready. Most died earlier or later than they wanted to (presumably in some cases). I haven't decided which is worse.

I suppose it doesn't matter either way. It just is.

Seeing death makes you think though.

I just hope I go like my granddad, in his sleep. Not screaming like the passengers in his car.

Going as pleasantly as possible is my ideal as well. Unfortunately, it's rare in my experience. On a side note, this is why I favor access to medically assisted death for the terminally ill. I've seen the result of not having access and it's disgusting that we force people to go out the ways we do sometimes.
