I find that fascinating but not surprising. I would think that when you are that close to your own wine (growing the vines, tending to the soils, crushing, vinting, etc.) a wine maker could get a sort of tunnel vision. Having a fresh palette seems like a critical element.

Of course, I might just be talking out of my butt.
