Right now noStrudel uses the users relay list as the main read/write relays for the client.

When your viewing another users feed it will use their relay list to fetch their feed.

Unfortunately the main feed still only uses your relay list to find events. but I have plans to update it to use the relay lists of your contacts to get events (I believe people are calling this the gossip model)

When you update your relay list (add/remove) it tries to push the list to your old. but it dose not broadcast it.
