The last of the garden finally off today. We are hitting -5°C overnight this week. Figured it was time to dig the last of the spuds.

The 8 potato boxes yielded about 80lb of tubers, but there sure were some weird ones in there.

This was the first time I ordered seed potatoes from a dedicated farm that produces them rather than using last year’s stock. I got Russet Burbanks, which are supposedly renowned for producing the long fry cuts in McDonald’s fries, and Sieglinde’s, which are known for their high yield.

The Russets ended up looking more like German Fingerlings for some reason, and lots that were fused together in weird shapes. The Sieglindes were pretty nice though. Lots of uniform large oval shaped potatoes that will be easy to peel and cube for canning.

With this year’s canning of potatoes and squash, the carrots and beets that have already been frozen, plus last year’s canning, the canned goods we have stashed and the deer I shot last weekend, we are pretty solid on emergency provisions.

I should end up with 20lb of the moose I helped my buddy cut up this week too.
