Look, unless someone can convince me OP_RETURN needs to change *right now*, I'm going to lean on punting the discussion until whatever hypothetical pain is actually unbearable.

From my understanding, op_return doesn't help much because there are other ways around it.
As a developer (not core) having useless code around is annoying and best deleted. However, if this upsets a lot of people, then just let it be... Go focus on more important matters.
Exactly. It's a massive shit storm to solve something that's not actually an unbearable pain point today. Punt it.

The only thing that’s needs to change is the bug in core that devs decided to “fix” with documentation change: https://wtfhappenedinfeb2023.com/bitcoin-core-devs-reaction/fixing-a-bug-through-documentation-change
Allowing a third party to dictate what is allowed on my property is an attack on bitcoin sovereignty. It would be the binging of the end of a decentralized blockchain ( which, based on the change request, is the ultimate agenda) because humans can’t resist the constant need for centralized governance. So its my opinion this a power play/ Trojan horse who are betting uniformed citizens are to stupid to understand and would let pass; essentially making the future of bitcoin centralized. Don’t trust…. verify.
