Just like the bech32 encoded note ID in the memo? Or the text of the note itself?

Yo the note itself

Hmm. At first I had thought that the Note ID would be useful, but how often am I going to actually use that? I think the text of the Note, truncated to XXX amount of characters would be a quick and easy visual aid to let the receiver know why they got the tip.

Assuming we’re allowing the full utf8 character set then it’s 159 characters max allowed in the bolt11 memo.

Was also planning on PRing Astral to let the user customize the invoice memo so this could work out well.

I do wonder how wallets handle 160 character memos though. I know the wallets I normally use truncate after like 30 chars.

Maybe it should default to “From {username} Re: {first 30 chars of note}” and let the user go from there?

I think that's acceptable.

The bech32 note ID would be acceptable if we would have automatic handling of nostr URIs in phones and browsers. Then it would be just like clicking on a `mailto:` URI.

It's not too far fetched for some LN wallets to support it since it should be so simple. Nostr clients are already calling wallets, why can't the inverse happen?
