This does still depend on OSM data, just a different app to interact with it. May have a better algorithm for finding routes, but may just be that doing that locally instead of requesting it from a server is probably gonna be slower on a lot of devices.

Ah OK. I wasn't sure about the OSM data, now I know.
I don't think there's really another option for open map data. I could be wrong about that, but it's the only data set I'm aware of.
only closed source maps i guess.. sometimes osmand gets stuck in the navigation and it takes forever to finish it. Maybe there is settings to make it faster or then not.
