I witnessed the events firsthand. The man died of a fentanyl overdose while being safely restrained as an ambulance was delayed due to bureaucratic mishaps. He was on parole and was in possession of illegal narcotics. When the police approached his vehicle, he stuffed evidence in his mouth. As he was sitting in the driver's seat and "crying," he was putting his head down and taking fistfuls of pills. By the time they had him out of the car, he started overdosing and was experiencing cardio pulmonary supression. As they fought with him to get in the squad, his condition was worsening as he complained of not being able to breathe, presumably associating the back of the squad with a form of drug induced claustrophobia. They had him lay down and they restrained him by placing a knee on his shoulder blade for several minutes as they waited for the delayed ambulance.

I say these things not in defense of all police in all their actions, only that this case was a gross miscarriage of justice.
