That was kind of opposite from my experience.
I grew up in Manchester UK and I can always go to the butcher shop asking for cuts I want, precisely cut to the thickness I wanted.
And for years that was not available in Thailand. The closest thing I've come across are wholesale meat dealers who can't even tell which cut is which. Or some 'specialty' muslim butcher.
Beef is often looked down on in modern Thai culture and doesn't get a lot if attention.
It's only just recently that this has begun to change, now it's easy to pick any cut, get anything I want, Even restaurants that would scoffs at me for asking for beef, 'we don't serve that kind of food here', I know adding beef items on their menu.
Beef is seeing a renaissance here and I'm all for it.
Exactly! I think maybe just around the last 2-3 years that we have variety of options. Maybe I should keep looking for more butcher here but I’ve found any decent one so far. Another problem is the way UK call some part of beef is not the same as what I used to call 😭
Ah, yes, the names are different, but it's easy to google it.
Eg, Picanha is (but not exactly identical to) a Rump steak or sirloin cap.
Thanks! Hopefully I can find some good butchers not too far from my flat 😋
There used to be one on almost every block. Then fiat hits, and many smaller businesses are just ... Gone.
That’s really hard to find now. I live in London central. There are no butcher, only big supermarkets selling roasting joint of beef and not telling us which exact part is it. They just label something like ‘This product will be from one of following cuts’ lol. Like beef lotto 🤣
