The shield kinda reminds me of the old McAfee logo lol so I'd say safe, trusted, verified.
I would think that's a newcomer that we should welcome. Was that your thinking? That might be the one icon that might be intuitive for Nostr users as long as the tradition of welcoming newcomers continues.
That will show up on the profiles that the user is following. The idea is to say that it is your friend and not an impersonator.
Nice! I like that idea. Would this be the only icon that can show in that location of the layout or are you thinking of having a variety of icons that could show in that spot? It would be handy to have an easily accessible lexicon for reference in the app menu since there is potential to have a lot of icons and meanings for them throughout the UX. Might also be good to spec this out so clients have the option to unify around this and maintain good UX. Otherwise, this will get overwhelming for newbies and normies.
Also, I just thought of a Nostr-unique checkmark if you wanted to go that route, but I could see there being utility to an entire set of Nostr-context icons that could be helpful to users. Just have to be careful to guide users in learning and adoption for UX.
Could you do something like a purple ring around the profile picture if you follow them and a green ring around it if you dont? Just as an alternative to icons. Could use different colors of course. Just an idea.

I think plebchain icon looks good.
The only thing to consider is that icons should be recognizable when scaled down to size.
Complex graphics gets jammed together.
But it has to be unique to Nostr to prevent copycats.
