If you're proficient at running a Bitcoin/Lightning node, federated side chains/ecash might not be for you.

If you're somehow incapable of using Bitcoin privately, federated side chains/ecash might be for you.

If you're using Bitcoin that someone else custodies (WoS), federated side chains/ecash might be for you.

After playing with this stuff a bit, I don't think I really need it. The counterparty risk outweighs the privacy/UX benefits to me. Might not for others though.
