Very good points. Interesting on the goalie front. They’re all 6’9” now and just try to “cover the net.”
Athleticism is there to a degree but it’s more about coverage it seems.
I was asked to help with younger goalies for the HS team & said no because I don’t even know how they’re taught now.
Paddle down, toe pick back/forth etc etc.
Im an old school stand up goalie, down when you need to cover low.
Who knows. I’m a sniper now anyway so love that it’s easier for me to score.
We've got hours of classroom videos, drill packages and do weekly development video calls. If you ever need help with goalie stuff, feel free to reach out, I'll set you up.
I was a proud product of the Joe Bertagna goalie camps.
My son is older now, my coaching days behind me. For now. Life changes fast so I’ll let you know.
May get into refereeing a little here or there.
Damn, I just checked out their website. 50 years of summer camps, that's goddamn impressive!
I love how Joe coached through the 70s, 90s and 00s. I think those three decades were the most influencial periods for goaltending as a whole. It's where the most important concepts were discovered and developed.
We just had our 10 year anniversary last summer. We got to celebrate it with the Stanley Cup for two days. If we can keep it going for another 40 years, maybe we'll get to chill with Lord Stanley a few more times.
