Without the algorithm, JK Rowling’s tweets wouldn’t have even made it over to people who didn’t follow her. When celebs (in this case blue checks) are given priority / promoted, people who want attention will try to leverage the celeb posts more via replying, trolling, etc. It’s why verification status should only be used as a measure of trust, not a special treatment.
