First attempt at running with only paid relays. Tried with only the following:

eden.nostr.land

nostr.inosta.cc

nostr.plebchain.org

nostr.wine

relay.nostr.com.au

relay.nostrati.com

relay.orangepill.dev

🌐 feed is clean and beautiful

🤨 some npubs and notes don't load at all

Added back:

relay.damus.io

relay.snort.social

Missing notes loaded again, but so did 🌐 spam.

Anyone else care to share their experience?

Running 20/21 relays now, 5/6 are paid. Can load almost everything and quite fast considering I am on on phone (Amethyst) and the average loading time I have experienced since now on Nostr. Usually I stay far from global, Amethyst's folloes replies feed is a good alternative. I think many clients should add it. Very nice work @vitor 🤙🍀 (can't tag 🤔)

Yep, some notes seem to just spin, experimenting earlier and was seeing the same thing

I am doing the same experiment. I have 6 pay relays, almost the same as you. Because of how some clients work, you need to have your updated list on some popular relay, so I have one in write mode only.

My experience is the same as yours.

The workaround I see is to enable some popular free relays and use a client that lets you choose what relays to see in Global, for now I only see Nostros doing this. But I think this would be very welcomed in other clients.

Hi Daniel, I am having the same “issue”. By only selecting paid relays, the global feed gets much better, but the rest of the experience feels more buggy. Many notes and profiles are either loaded with some delay or do not load at all

Haven't tried paid-only yet, but am guessing you lost a bunch of follow/followers? Not a big issue as it's easy to rebuild follows, and followers can get there whenever

perhaps it's worth contacting some of the npubs you're having trouble loading so they can make sure that their kind0 is pushed to more relays.

would be nice if you could filter the kinds of messages you want from relays. (join a big relay for 0 only events)
