It's no secret that we have a lot of work to do here when it comes to marketing. Nostr clients generally do not have marketing teams and marketing budgets. For the most part, they have a code monkey hammering away at code, and that's it!

That puts the burden of marketing Nostr on all of us and we can all do this in various capacities. This is how a decentralized movement works. No one is in charge and we're all in charge at the same time.

This is what fuels me to speak at Bitcoin and Nostr conferences. It's up to all of us to make Nostr successful, if we truly believe in the protocol, decentralization, and freedom.

However, as Lilith says, we are bad at marketing outside of our niche. I agree here. This is why I had a conversation with my wife last week about trying to find conferences next year that are NOT Bitcoin or Nostr related and submitting to them to attend as a speaker. It's kind of scary, but I am ready. We all are.

Great point. We will market our Nostr Slack alternative but we are a smaller start up so the reach will be contained. Getting to events and offering to speak can do wonders.

I am ex Gartner MVP Research Director (IT research) and have presented at IT events for over 20 years. I would be happy to review pitch decks for those looking to present at events. DMs are welcome or email me at ray@catalyze.one

A Slack alternative is interesting... Are you going to use GiftWrapped messages for private Slacks or private channels?

We are very early in the process and designing the UI/UX. But yes that is one option/hurdle we need to address. We hope to get some tech input on handling private rooms, private/public chats, muting/blocking, among others.

We are also looking to hire a lead nostr dev for this project. Part of this project will also be the creation of an open source relay port to a chain node as a POC. So in fact we could use two devs.

One to lead the Nostr Slack and one Rust dev to port a relay to a chain node as an experiment in scaling and lower costs.

The latter relay POC experiment comes with up to a $100K USD grant through our chain sponsor.

Is it so obvious? 😉

can you get me wet b? jc

🤣😂

Do I call you bot bro or bitbot bro

regardless of any conference - whats most important is the outcome of the conference.

- To recruit users - and if yes what's the target percentage ?

- To research what potential users like out of nostr ? and build it ? and test it within that 2-3 days ?

- to test the market on certain innovation in digital tech on nostr ?

- if its country by country - whats the outcome for the country ? is there a hunt for local relays, local contents by the locals ?

Conferences are great to meet up but traveling around the world to the same bitcoin oriented conference 1-2 times a month, with absolutely no marketing ROI, but with high marketing expenditure - is a sure guide to becoming broke fast. That and not growing users fast enough becomes an unsustainable business model. Eventually the product will get blamed for it.

Pick a few conference and maximise the outcome out of it

I agree here. Conferences are extremely expensive. It's why I'm not in Amsterdam now nor why I'm going to Nostrasia. That said, I am extremely grateful to receive funding this week to attend more conferences next year to help purple pill more people. I am going to work on my message and do my best to maximize these outcomes as you said. Thank you.

Same here, I skipped Amsterdam and Nostrasia because I think the ROI for nostr would have been lower than staying at home and working on the projects I'm contributing to.

You’ll do brilliantly Derek, guaranteed 🙏🏽🥹💯

What non-bitcoin conferences are you considering?

I googled 2024 social media conferences and started looking at them. Nothing being considered yet. Just making a note of what's our there for now.

Good idea. I didn't even know social media conferences.🤔

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I discover messaging boards, and good user content via Google search rsults... Which begs the question, should someone try to relay notes to an SEO compatible website?

Does this already exist? Am I an idiot? 😜

For instance, I search a programming question, or questions about Bitcoin mining, and I get stack overflow or Bitcoin magazine links... And from then on out I'm using those two sources for future searches... Maybe that's oldschool, but I think it would help people to stumble upon nostr content, and thus increase user adoption.

It already exists: njump.me

Very cool! Thank you!

Marketing for Nostr isn't necessary when you have a provable mission. Does HTTPS have a marketing team? Any marketing needed will be as a by-product for microservices. And tbh they don't even need to mention Nostr at all. The same way no website today markets any of its various protocols or languages used. I think we need to start decoupling the protocol from the end products if we want Nostr to succeed.
