Electricity transmission infrastructure is ugly to many people, but I generally find it to be uplifting. Maybe it’s because of my original profession.

Electricity is one of the biggest quality of life enhancers for people, and so transmission lines give me a sense of development and progress. Distribution lines are often haphazard looking, but transmission lines generally have a bigger and more organized appearance which kind of appeals to my sense of order.

In forested areas they tend to be more subtle/hidden, but in deserts they’re just kind of out in the open.

the artist R. Crumb famously drew clusters of power and phone lines because he felt like they were hard for artists to imitate.

it’s just pure function, not much thought out into form.
