Today is the "Martin Luther King Jr. Day" in the United States, a federal holiday. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the greatest leaders in the U.S. civil rights movement, directly influenced the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, contributing significantly to ending racial segregation in the country. His immortal speech, "I Have a Dream," is recognized as one of the most successful speeches in American history and served as a model textbook for English learners, including many Chinese students.

Dr. King's historical impact through nonviolent activism extends beyond African Americans, holding profound significance for all minority groups in the United States, including the Chinese. The valuable aspect of true democracy lies in acknowledging imperfections and maintaining the courage and channels for improvement.

Democracy isn't about boasting or packaging; it relies on intrinsic moral values. The United States has evolved into what it is today because of freedom fighters like Dr. King, who embodied values meaningful not only for America but for all of humanity.
