That isn't right, with nostr you do own your identity but relays can block you. On the fediverse you loose your account if an admin wants that. I operate both BTW
Jannies can also defederate you and you just lose the ability to contact all of those ppl on that instance.

Exactly. Given that your instance can be blocked for running the 'wrong' frontend, that is really bad
