Okay so if your mom and grandma is wanting a privacy phone, as a technologist (not sure what else to call someone comfortable with tech) why wouldn't you help them out insted of outsourcing that trust to an unknown third party?

We have to help friends and family where we can. If you have the ability to run servers, flash phones, etc...you should be willing to help those your connected to achive greater privacy and control over their data.

IMO its the only way we are gonna escape the technological panopticon that large tech companys have built is to help those close to us where we can with this stuff. (assuming they actually care about this kind of stuff 😅 thats the real hurdle here)

Ill concede that there will always be a place for 3rd party vendors in some cases because not everyone will have someone close and willing to help. But saying "my grandma cant do so we need a third party" is akin to "just use google cuz its easy" in my mind.

Ok ill get off my idealistic soapbox now.
