Initially, I was hostile to the idea of AI art.
I'd still resist calling this kind of imagery 'art' even though it mimics it.
It can produce beautiful images, far more quickly than a trained and experienced artist could produce. And so as a tool it is wonderful to conjure inspirational and imaginative prototypes that could be used to assist artists.
As a writer I'm finding it very helpful to quickly sketch out a dreamscape version of what's on my head for a character or a scene. Or to produce a visualization for a concept I'm working with.
But art? Still not buying into that. When machines have agency and autonomy, and express themselves through a medium aesthetically, I'll be onboard with that term.
