David Bowie issued "Bowie Bonds" in 2007, a financial instrument backed by the future royalties of his music catalog.

The bonds were securitized by Bowie's 25 albums recorded before 1990, including hits like "Space Oddity" and "Changes."

The bonds were structured to pay investors a fixed interest rate of 7.9% over a 10-year term.

Bowie Bonds were sold for $55 million to raise funds for Bowie to buy back the rights to his music from his former manager.
