Purple is not me “asking for money”. People asked for ways to support me so I added it. If I didn’t have this I wouldn’t be able to keep working on Damus. If Vitor has other ways to subsidize development of Amethyst then that is great, but not everyone has that luxury.

Me and vitor have different development philosophies. I don’t think adding more and more stuff to the app is necessarily a good thing. I want Damus to be really good, reliable, and fast at specific things (like microblogging). I think a community functionality should be a standalone app, like a reddit app.

Così adesso hanno il loro "badge purple" per distinguere chi vuole aiutarti da quelli che non vogliono aiutarti?

Quelli col "badge purple" sono utenti di prima classe e gli altri contano meno?

Dove ho già visto questa cosa...?

Tu hai perfettamente ragione a voler "monetizzare" le tue fatiche e seguo con estremo interesse Damus in attesa che arrivi su Android, ma se queste sono le premesse vedo un futuro molto buio.

Se mi sbaglio sono pronto a chiederti scusa e a ritrattare le mie parole, ma per ora ti dico che dividere gli utenti in categorie in ricchi e poveri "solo perché hanno chiesto un modo per aiutarti", non mi sembra una buona cosa.

Ive had people upset at me for not creating purple sooner and now for creating it. If theres one thing Ive learned is that pleasing everyone is impossible so I might as well just focus on what my users want and not sneering users who don’t even use damus. Not sure why you feel the need to put this crap in my mentions. You’re happy elsewhere, great! Nostr is working.

Mi spiace che ti sembra un attacco deliberato, invece voleva essere una critica costruttiva.

Usually is also not about what users say, but what users do. Observe and understand them like a BBC documentary.

Ma sul serio non vedi il problema?

Solo per il fatto che non hanno le traduzioni automatiche, ad esempio, il loro campo d'azione è più limitato, di conseguenza hanno meno interazione.

Io ad esempio amo l'interfaccia utente di Primal, ma non essendoci la traduzione automatica capirei un decimo di quello che leggo, ma non pagherei per averlo.

Di conseguenza uso Amethyst.

Poi comunque uso servizi esterni come DeepL quando ho bisogno di una traduzione più accurata.

But perhaps look at it as though it’s another subscription service.

It allows you to connect with likeminded people, make new friendships and have fun.

Netflix and Spotify give you far less for a lot more 💜

Hmmm I disagree.

People who pay are funding the development of Damus.

People who do not pay are getting the results of that development for free.

Everyone is benefitting.

So I think the arrangement is fair.

Twitter is different & I agree that Twitter is a caste system and an abomination. Twitter boosts visibility based on how much ppl pay. So if you can't afford to pay your voice is worth less. Awful.

Nostr development needs to be sustainable as a business. Aside from donations and merch sales that leaves advertizing and subscriptions. Each has it's pros and cons.
