The United States has no VAT. The federal government raises money primarily through the income tax system. The states and local governments establish and collect their own sales taxes.

I'm aware that the main source of revenue for the federal level is income tax. I was curious about the lower levels.

Sales tax is just a fixed value on each sale?

Yes, from what I’ve seen, it’s a fix value, but every state applies a different % and not all goods have the same % like most places in the world, for example, tax on milk has a different % than on a smartphone

Yurop in general craves VAT from goods coming outside the EU zone. It depends on the country but it’s mostly around 27-30%.
