I’ll take the second part as a compliment - and I see your point about a sense of community and charity being important. I think that separate structures for separate goals is a good thing.
The bridges shouldn’t be built by people with no incentive to do it beautifully, with care, and with the community in mind, but they also shouldn’t be done needlessly and unprofitably.
I think that a free organization like a business would be the natural solution. It doesn’t have to be ugly like today’s businesses, which are controlled by the government and the banks (finance). But the structure works well.
