That's pretty standard for musicals in my experience. What plot they have is a just a contrivance for chaining a series of thematically linked songs together.

By the time I watched it, I was *desperate* for escapism, so I turned off my higher reasoning faculties completely, and strapped in for the ride. It may not have been the Star Trek we deserved, but it was the Star Trek I needed right now ; )
