After the turn onto Milwaukee, the rows of storefronts look like they used to be a big shopping district (I was born in the city but really grew up as a suburban kid so never knew the city well). There were some vacancies and just seemed to me like the same inevitable physical retail decline, though not at the totally sad disrepair / crumbling state yet.
