Is there any drawback for a #Nostr user to connect to « too many » #relay?

I think having too many relays leads to slower performance as you might be downloading/processing a lot of duplicate data. That might be the only drawback but curious to see what others think.

More thoughts here. 🤙

Thanks for the reply. I’m currently connected to 30 #relays and I haven’t perceived a drop in performance so far. #nostr #relay

No problem. That’s good to know. What client are you using?

Damus

My understanding is that connecting to more #relays may help my posts to be preserved over time. It seems that many of my posts have been lost for reasons that are unclear to me.

That’s a good point, and I think it should help preserve your notes. However, most relays don’t seem to have that as an obligation (i.e. they might purge notes that are older than a set amount of time).

Maybe check out this tool if you haven’t already: https://nostryfied.online

It’s supposed to broadcast your notes to more relays, but more importantly, back them up. Still on the lookout for how to use the backup file tho.

Thanks, I haven’t tried this service yet but I’ll check it out.
