What's your favorite and simplest way to stain or finish?
I always did just some very utilitarian shop pieces, didn't bother with staining or finishing much.
But now trying to do some water and scratch resistant tabletops. And it's a bit of a guessing game.
For tabletops, probably my go to is oil-based polyurethane. It is very tough and I have used it on floors. It is about as water resistant as possible. I would stay away from any water based finish.
