It had been built years ago, and it’s a big flop. They’ve spent crazy amounts on huge infrastructure for large population and corporations to move in, and it’s still mostly empty. Corporations won’t move there because it doesn’t make sense in business perspective, and people won’t move there because they’d either be living in Beijing (convenient) or in cities near by (cheaper). The city’s location is prone to flood, and Xi chose that place basically because that’s where his mom was born. And he barely even mention the city now because it’s just embarrassing.

I read it as building for 4 million dollars ($) and I thought wow this is going to be a cardboard city.
