The real problem with mining is 35% of the hash rate is controlled by public, regulated US miners on a KYC pool who 100% will censor transactions if asked to.

It's an actual 51% attack happening in real time.

If there was a "we" that could choose to allow this or not, it would just perpetuate the same problem.

I agree it's a problem. It's not going away quickly. Bitcoin metamorphosising in response to it is inevitable.

We can not allow it by mining more ourselves and reducing their share of the pie, and building miners that are friendly for everyday ppl to run imo
