A more practical cynicism: What sets apart critical FOSS infrastructure from abandonware is usually funding. Since both Fedi and Nostr have funding, they’re probably not going anywhere anytime soon. If one becomes a universal standard (like Chrome for browsers) then it’ll probably be kept up basically forever.
The more I see how retarded social media makes people, the more I wish it would all just go away. The genie is out of the bottle, though.
Imagine what people in the 50s would have thought if you told them their grandkids would be sitting in a chair all day, staring at a screen, posting little lightning bolts at each other nonstop, and that that is somehow "cutting edge" and "the future."
