I am very excited to finally announce the opening of Henhouse - the first women-only community on Nostr!
Henhouse is built on nostr:npub10qdp2fc9ta6vraczxrcs8prqnv69fru2k6s2dj48gqjcylulmtjsg9arpj, and allows users to enjoy all the freedom of Nostr and the benefits of a decentralized and censorship-resistant platform while connecting in a space made just for us.
After running Spinster, the largest women’s server on the Fediverse, for 5 years — I have learned a lot from the mistakes of that platform. Nostr provides solutions, and I believe it is the future of decentralized social media.
Henhouse offers three ways to enjoy #Nostr:
1. Your Home feed (everyone you follow, same as any other client)
2. Henhouse local feed (only other approved Henhouse users, women-only)
3. Global feed (literally everything)

Looks awesome! I'm just not super keen on reserving a henhouse .social NIP-05 username. Same way I wouldn't want to reserve a mancave .social address.

Legit question: how do you determine that the user is a women and not some AI generated image with a dude behind?
We don't, but since it's an open network where all content is public anyway, there's limited safety/privacy concerns with infiltration like other women-only spaces. Ultimately if they are behaving in a woman-friendly way and not causing problems, they can probably get away with it. That's the trade-off of being more open and protecting user privacy.
If it becomes a problem we may have to be stricter with pre-vetting prior to NIP-05 approval, but for now this is the policy:
