Why? That is a valid observation and for 99% of homes is absolutely true.
The trick is to figure out how to actually make the house produce either food, fuel, fiber or medicine (hopefully all or a combination there of).
This is why I’ve been studying #permaculture.
Your home should be productive if at all possible. If not then all you have is the above false value. Thankfully it still has utility value.
Most people don't produce anything with the homes though.

Not the house itself but the land (if any) it’s on.
I understand but most people don't have a garden. They prefer to put all kind of pesticides in their yard so they can play golf on it.
