What makes you say so? I think internet slang is a vibrant counterexample.

You might have a point with the regional dialects; it’s probably being replaced with the development of jargon within interest-based communities.

Internet slang passes so quickly its hardly ever adopted by the wider community. I think "LOL" is the only one that has really stuck so far, but that's just an acronym.
