That being said, I'm not against PoW as it's sometimes easier to do PoW straight than to get sats into the hands of users.
Should only be a temporary fix though.
That’s true, but long term it’s just unneeded complexity. It would mean every client has to implement a proof of work mechanism
Also, it’s easier to sell people magic internet money then it is to explain what proof work is and why it’s important
You don’t need the clients to hash, you need your pool to report that the user made a connection using the workername you gave them & that they’re giving you the hash you asked for. Subtle difference
Still more code the client has to write to do the same thing in a shittier way.
The client code would be modified very little, just an extra button & minor backend communication. The server side would basically just be a reoccurring task polling numbers & sending emails.
Operationally simple. Conceptually annoying, but things like this is what will further decentralize hashrate. Shittier is subjective.
