🚩Hypothetical:🚩

The Department of Defense accepts the Jason Lowery “soft war” thesis. Resist Bill passes. Appointed “Secretary of Communication” deems bitcoin a risk to security w/out voter input. Surveillance state increases. Anyone who uses #bitcoin gets jailed/fined.

This is good why?

It reveals the authoritarian nature of the system.

If they accepted the softwar thesis wouldn’t this make them start mining themselves?

Everything is good for Bitcoin.

👏👏👏

I’m not concerned about this being bad for bitcoin. I’m concerned about this being bad for United States citizens that are bitcoiners

Good hypothetical. 👊

Unintended consequences are always important to try and game out.

Sometimes "big brains" forget to steel man their arguments.

Prohibition only legitimizes it's power

True, however doing so criminalizes US citizens who interact with bitcoin. Again, totally a hypothetical… Increasingly I feel like I need a second passport. Maybe I need to marry for one lol sure would be a lot cheaper.

Hey international fellas: I’m super cute, hella fun, an amazing cook, and have my own bitcoin. LFG! 🤦‍♀️

The fight to keep cryptography classified as speech and not a munition is an old one.

Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.

Those who do know history are doomed to stand by screaming, while everyone else repeats it.

Well said! A bit gloomy but could also be the QOTD. #[2]

Even without the restrict act, classifying ASICs as arms opens the door to sweeping regulation. Sure we’ll be allowed to own them under 2A, but we’ll also need licenses, background checks, registration of each asic, sellers will be classified as arms dealers, interstate commerce restrictions, etc.

Classifying anything as “arms” is a slippery slope to government overregulation.

Words matter.
