#Bitcoin development is often compared to the "early Internet".

I've been thinking it's more like #Linux:

- Assembled from decades of past research.

- Reviewed and improved by thousands of passionate and brilliant enthusiasts.

- Can be and is "forked" for different use cases or approaches.

- A "base" system upon which modules can be connected to expand functionality.

- The invisible layer upon which a new world is built.

- People depend on it constantly, without ever interacting with it directly.

Linux has become the backbone of global networks and electronics of all scales. Yet relatively few people even know anything about it.

I'll bet 99 people out of a hundred if asked "What would happen if Linux computers suddenly stopped working?" would say something like "I guess some nerds would be disappointed." ... Not realizing *everything* they depend on would cease to function: cars, planes, municipal water, electrical grids, appliances.

This!
