Effective August 15th, for new business, Progressive will be lowering their auto insurance rates in Louisiana ... and for renewals starting September 12th.

If you typically don't reshop rates (for all lines of insurance), you should. Save some money and convert the savings over to sats, or not.

Is this because they’ve removed a bunch of illegals?

In insurance, there is no 'one' variable. There are still a plethora of people who drive illegally and/or undocumented. That said, many carriers have invested in their own AI modules for risk assessment and analysis. I can tell you for experience that Progressive had gotten stringent on their underwriting. While there is the permissive use statute, for example, they found ways to deny claims with dishonestpolicyholders. So if you play by the rules and be transparent, you don't have anything to worry about in paying for coverage and benefiting from it when you need it. State legislation also assisted in cutting rates. While we're staring to see some good, Louisiana has a very, very long way to go.
