Happy my #perry pear tree is fruiting but sad I didn't get it to some land where it will really flourish. Found it locally and saddle grafted it on to a generic pyrus communis rootstock, had it genetically tested against the national collection and nothing came up, I think it could be a lost variety called 'Paxford', however apart from the village I found it in there is no other information about this variety!

Does make a nice grapefruit flavoured perry though. Fingers crossed they don't chop down the original tree and this tree can help the variety survive into the future.
