have any of you gardeners had issues with ants in your vegetable gardens? i can't use any poisons since its in the food garden but is there an effective way to rid of the ants or maybe certain vegetables that they don't care at all about (can coexist fine with the plants and not ruin yields)?

Citrus essential oils will melt their exoskeleton but you need enough to get to their hive.

Yes you would mix it with water. I am not sure of the ratio but you may need a good amount to get the queen. At the very least it will knock them back.
