Don’t use website builders. They can be easy up front but will extract your soul and empty the wallet over the long run. Not worth it!
Discussion
Is there a good alternative?
Not that I know of. Webflow to code export / manual cleaning up and self hosting probably.
All of the web builders will price aggressively if they see traction and by that time you’re locked in
I mean Figma to code … 🤦♂️
I was wondering who would actually recommend webflow 😂 I’ve inherited a several webflow sites at work, it takes me 3-4 times as long to do something I could have done by hand with a static site generator and headless cms.
Probably depends on your level of expertise. I definitely work much faster in webflow
It has its audience, I’m sure it’s great for those that prefer not to write html/css by hand and maybe have more of a design background rather than development but for a developer that’s been doing just that for more than 20 years, webflow is painful 🫢
Yeah but very few devs can provide the same level of attention to detail as a designer can directly in a builder. Of course it depends on requirements and priorities so design is not the only thing to consider.
Sure, pros/cons as with anything. I could list a whole bunch of things why I dislike it but I won’t bore you 🫢
Yeah. Fkn fiat. There is no free lunch.
WordPress works though
Wordpress. It does everything.
Open source ones are fine, though. Forget Squarespace and Wix, but WordPress is pretty good. Plus, the client can make simple edits and add content, so you're not on the hook for tedious minor updates and such.
npub.pro is simple
Webflow to learn
Then bootstrap studio.
Then you're all set in terms of having learned a decent html/css
