my last day of my teaching career after putting in 5 years of hard work. 5 years of endless IEP meetings, feeling stuck inside buildings, holding stress from administration and parents, & never feeling like I was doing what I was meant to do.

I was told in college, “You should just be a teacher so you can have summers off to be with your kids”.

this was the narrative I believed and chose to move forward with.

fast forward to me today: I don’t have kids, I live out of two backpacks, I don’t own my own house or car, I travel the world with my husband caring for other people’s homes and pets, & my passion for opting out of the system is stronger than ever.

it’s funny to look back and realize that I always had a deep-down feeling that something was off, that something wasn’t right… I just couldn’t see it at the time.

I think past me would be really proud of today me. 🤍
