I’m sure you’ve all heard the AI Drake x The Weeknd song produced by “Metro Boomin” by now, but did you know TIDAL is the first DSP to remove it?

It’s amassed over 250,000 streams on Spotify and who knows how many Laylo signups.

This is arguably the most popular song created using artificial intelligence, and also one of the best marketed songs by any ghostwriter, independently.

I can imagine UMG isn’t pleased and is cracking down as we speak.

Ghostwriter has sparked an interesting conversation regarding creativity, formula, and IP rights. Very interested in seeing how this all plays out. I love how emerging tech shake things up in the music industry.

It’s important to note that AI models are trained by visual and audio datasets that already exist, but the original creators aren’t compensated nor is their consent obtained prior to use. This is where a lot of the controversy lies. Perhaps that’s where blockchain technology can come in to aid authentication efforts.

What are your thoughts on the use of AI to mimic popular artists and producers?

How will legislation regarding AI impact it’s use in music?

Musicians/artists should have to give permission and receive royalties. I’d say anything that is AI generated from a set of known copyrighted material should need permission and/or pay royalties. There must be incentives to be creative or what’s the point.

If only there was some programmable money suited for micropayments that could facilitate frictionless transactions in these sorts of situations 😂

🤣

Isn't that what Justin Sun created Tron for? 🤣

😝

You gotta look into mimble Wimbledon coin bro!

😂

Honestly it might take the rise of AI for traditional industry folks to finally see the value in crypto and act to implement it 😅

I agree.

1000% agree. I believe that new legislation as well as monetization and authentication efforts will be coming swiftly to address this.

Update: The AI Drake song has been pulled from Apple Music, Deezer, and Spotify too, in that order

I predict YouTube might be next. I don’t think SoundCloud or TikTok will at all.

We’re seeing the fight of big #music on #AI in real time. Fascinating stuff

It’s a great reason to not allow for delete buttons on @damus #[3]

Industry and guv could never force the “platform” to remove the content

I really respect Tidal for taking it down. It says a lot about the integrity of the company that they did something even if it won’t be permanent.

Artists should be paid for their work. A balance has to be found between the industry, AI, and artistic expression. Even though I’m anti-middleman the industry can’t be ignored. The fact that record labels own artists work and likeness makes me uncomfortable with what Ghostwriter has done. Feels like another way to exploit human ability.

I haven’t heard the song because I’m not a huge fan of Drake. I get his impact and that he can make a hit but he’s also an industry darling and I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the way he shows homage to hip hop culture.

As a fan of Metro, I really don’t think I want to hear it. He’s a very talented producer with an adventurous take on composition. He’s still young enough on the scene that even though he has done a bunch of work with Gunna AI mimicking his art feels like it’s dating him. The AI generated R. Kelly album is an example of my point.

Pretty sure Spotify and Apple took it down as well.

Not sure how I feel about this, my son is an artist creating his own music so not sure how this will impact his music future.

I expect in all actuality that his work will become even more valuable in the same way hand crafted furniture and other things became more valuable after automation.

There is something appreciable in knowing you are enjoying the work of a master craftsman vs. something mass produced. Daft Punk is a group that’s already appreciating this change.

I’m all for change and moving forward, so this is another way of looking at it 🫡

Jazz is beautiful for the very reason that it’s not algorithmic. Have faith. If he loves what he does, others will love what he does. 🥰

Yes, he was a little disappointed this morning reading about AI in music, but he shall continue to do what he loves and enjoys 💜

Not gonna dox myself, but I took years of classical piano, and composed for a bit too. If he’s a musician, I know he has to be a sensitive young man. I’m sure it’s a bit discouraging.

Maybe I’m biased, but I don’t think AI music will ever replace the true greatness of music. Pop and a few other genera are pretty algorithmic and already basically churned out like a factory, but we don’t talk about that much even 10 years later. True artistry hasn’t been captured by a computer yet.

Basic 1-4-5 format songs… eh. lol

Well said my friend 🫂

I’m pretty sure someone is going to find a way to integrate value for value into streaming platforms and recording/engineering.

When those things are available talent will be rewarded for its value. Things are still so new and a lot of people aren’t aware of needing to fix it. No need to be disappointed he’s ahead of the curve. It’s like an opportunity for him to focus on mastering his craft so he can stack all the sats 🧡

^^^ this is the way.

Let the old way die in its own hubris. In the future, true artists will find the public is their direct patrons.

Selling hand crafted woodwork with my grandpa comes to mind. He did pretty dang well, and he didn’t have the Internet or sats to make it as easy or global as it is now. ❤️❤️❤️

Agreed. AI can only replicate so much. And at the end of the day most music fans want to support artists not just songs. Nonetheless, I’m sure that new legislation will come into effect to protect the IP of music creators.

Got the update as soon as I posted! Pretty exciting times 😂 It’s cool that Tidal was among the first. I don’t use the platform and hadn’t heard much about it till getting on Nostr. I’m learning a lot.

This all may be a complete blessing for your son! As a writer, I recently used AI to avoid writers block 😂😂 who knows the inspiration that it may give him! Or the opportunity and access it may provide? There is so much good that could come from pairing his artistry with AI 🤗 it’s the industry that needs to be watched.

Wishing your son the absolute best in his musicianship 🫶🏽💫🌻 You’re his mom. He’s gonna do well!

Aww thank you gorgeous 💜🫂

Yes, as a writer myself I use chatGPT almost every day. It’s a great writing buddy and has helped me become a better writer overall. I believe there are limits to the use of this technology and that we should use AI to increase efficiency without negatively impacting actual people

Yes, all major DSPs besides YouTube have now taken it down but TIDAL moved the fastest
