-THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE-

The Neviges Mariendom, designed by Gottfried Böhm and completed in 1968, transformed the historical pilgrimage site in Velbert, Germany.

This monumental concrete cathedral, built to accommodate a post-World War II influx of visitors, reflects Modernist influences and evolving liturgical practices. Emphasizing inclusivity and openness, the Mariendom stands as a prominent architectural landmark, symbolizing historical continuity and post-war reconstruction.

Its jagged concrete volume rises like a mountain amid the woods, creating a striking contrast to its medieval and Baroque predecessors.
