About how long does it take to see results/stats from these miners? It would be important to her to see results, or she’ll see it as wasting money. (she doesn’t understand “securing the network” yet…)

Depends I guess… if you join a specific pool of miners you might see some sats… I’m just solo mining so I may hit the btc lotto some day, but otherwise it’s more peace of mind knowing that I am helping to decentralize the network
Yes. That would be largely my reason for running one, too. I talked with a guy who was using his rigs to provide additional heat in the winter. I don’t know how that was working out financially for him, but it was a neat idea. I may try to figure out how to connect one or two of those rigs to solar I have here.
These don’t throw that much heat, the ant miners do I think, but these for sure could run solar
