I can’t find the paper now, but I read some research showing that when somebody believes in something, like a conspiracy theory, showing them evidence which contradicts that belief does not reduce people’s confidence in their belief. Instead showing somebody that there is evidence their belief is wrong, only reinforces those believes.

Showing somebody who believes in a conspiracy thoery that they’re wrong only reinforceds their beliefs. It’s this crazy self-reinforcing cycle.
