I can only measure my experience through what I have witnessed. I first began researching btc heavily in mid 2015. Finally committed capital in 2016.

Back then reading about the ln as something that was soon to be rolled out was amazing.

I ran a ln node in 2018 off a casa raspberry pi and it was clunky af. Syncing chains took forever.

To be here now and seeing the growth of not only btc, but the lightning network as a whole, and now Nostr and the incorporation of LN… wow. It just blows my mind how far we have come.

And if the past 7 years tell us anything, it’s this…. by the time 2030 rolls around I don’t think any of us will quite believe what’s been accomplished.

Thank you to the builders, the dreamers, the memers, the s-posters, the plebs and the entire community.

I don’t say or write all that much about btc anymore. I prefer to listen these days as the vast majority of the people here on Nostr are far more knowledgeable than I.

And I am grateful for that. 💜🫂

I love it❗️💜

Wow thanks for your perspective.

Always appreciate hearing what evolution OGs have seen with this 🟠.

Currently doing my best to relive it by time traveling with podcasts to catch up on the history.

🤙

My pleasure. Happy to share if people want to hear. I got to witness the block wars first hand. Wild to look back on it now and see how important things like that were.

I remember some really heated debates and monitoring the mining pools to see who was signaling for what.

Plus all the forks that happened at that time. It was really wild.

Any mental frameworks you formed going through that for noobs to consider going forward?

I just default to #[3]:

Stack sats & stay humble

Seems to cover most of my actions 🏃 this 🟠🟣.

I personally subscribe to the stack sats and stay humble philosophy. DCA, send to cold storage, let math and patience to it’s work.

I always try and have the “white belt mentality” in BJJ you want to have a white belt mentality meaning you can learn from everyone.

I’ve found that in btc having that same mentality allows you to keep an open mind and continue to learn. 🤙🏼

Thanks for sharing this Chris! Great story.

Are you still running a node?

I haven’t run one in about 2 years. Had a bunch of kids in the same time span as mentioned above so my ability to tinker with stuff has been reduced 😂.

That being said, I would like to run a node again. So thoughts and recommendations would be most welcome.

Haha makes a lot of sense.

I’m in the process of trying to figure out. It seems fairly straightforward and there’s lots of info available online.

I’m just trying to figure out which information to trust. Best if you only have to do it once.

I think Rene said something like 50% of the larger LN transactions were failing to go through around 2018

Yes that would absolutely make sense. It was clunky and at that time maybe only a thousand or so ln nodes online globally. Balancing channels was a pain. And you would have channels go down and lose what was in them. I learned really early not to have a lot in them. 😅

That was really early days for Lightning. I remember Jack Mallers had a “Zap Wallet” for LN but I had no idea what that meant!

Oh yes it was go fast and break stuff for sure 😂

We can go further together at Nostr

Absolutely - signal is so high here

Maybe you don't write much, but it's dead on! Loved it and absolutely agree! 💯

💜🫂 Ty brother I appreciate that. It’s just so amazing to see the next generations who have picked up the btc torch.

So many truly intelligent, gifted, passionate people have flocked to it. 💜🧡
