The French Revolution of 1789 was brought on by the financial collapse of the French government. It was a good thing to depose Louis XVI, but things didn’t get better – they got much, much worse with Robespierre and then Napoleon.

Wasn't Napoleon much better than Robespierre? And frankly even the Louis?
I'm not sure I agree that it was good to depose Louis XVI; if you must have a government, monarchy may actually be preferable (see Hans-Hermann Hoppe, "Democracy: The God that Failed," and "From Aristocracy to Monarchy to Democracy."
Perhaps Napoleon is being called worse than Louis for the bloodshed and devastation he unleashed on Europe.
And then it was Robespierre himself who said "like Saturn, Revolution devours its children", he knew what he was talking about :) revolutions so far were acts of erupting frustration and hatred of the certain group of ppl, if successful - followed by the change in ruling class. Merely rotation. No happiness for everyone, no paradise lost found. Why ? Bc the nature of the man remained the same. What we need now is a revolution of consciousness
